Aside from sleeping in the same bed with Ella, which means little real sleep, the day started out good. Ella is like a helicopter blade rotating in the bed. When her feet make contact with me, she kicks. I can move her over and straighten her up, but in know time she is sideways in the bed again.
Thankfully, Ella is back to her normal, cheerful self. A sick child on a long car trip is no fun.
We took I-1o through New Orleans. We didn’t stop, but it was cool to see Lake Pontchartrain and the city from the interstate.
Hoping to catch a ferry across Mobile Bay to Fort Morgan, we visited Dauphin Island. Unfortunately, it was the beginning of a holiday weekend and everybody had the same idea so we weren’t able to make the ferry. We did get a chance to visit historic Fort Gaines, established in 1821 for defense of Mobile Bay.
Ella didn’t know what to think about the Fort Gaines potty.
After battling traffic in Mobile, we met Glenda, Tyler and Jessica in Crestview, Florida. Crestview is about an hour from Seagrove Beach, so we should be on the beach by lunch tomorrow. This is my first trip to Florida in ten years. I am looking forward to listening to the waves and watching the kids play in the sand.
