About Me

My photo
Welcome to my blog. I'm a Mississippi country girl transplanted to Grapevine, TX. I have been blessed with a great husband, and my kiddos, Aleck and Ella. When I'm not eating bon bons on the couch, I am my kid's room mom, PTA member, Sunday School teacher, taxi driver, amateur photographer and personal chef. When I'm not doing those things, I'm running a small jewelry business, 2nd Amendment Jewelry (www.2ndamendmentjewelry.com), that I started with my twin sister, Glenda. It's a crazy and busy life, but I wouldn't trade it for anything in this world. I am so thankful for all the blessings in my life!

Tuesday Tidbits

Ella started swim lesson yesterday offered by the Hurst Recreation Center.  I’m thankful that Ella is doing so well in the pool, because I’m not very impressed with the quality of the lessons.  The Mommy and Me classes basically consists of singing a few songs and learning a “skill” for the day.  The skill today was “scooping” with our hands.  We sang a few songs and then the instructors stood around talking, but never offered advice or instructions.

Ella was having fun throwing rings in the pool.  She wanted to jump in and retrieve the rings, but she couldn’t get the rings by herself because the water was too deep, but with my help pushing her down to the bottom of the pool, she could grab both rings and kick back to the surface in four feet of water.  The instructor came over and asked if Ella grabbed the rings herself and seemed impressed when I said yes.  It would have been great if she had offered instruction, but she walked away.  If things aren’t better tomorrow, I don’t think we will waste our time with the remainder of the lessons.

It’s already started.  Aleck is too cool to be seen with his mom.  I dropped Aleck off at Dede’s house before swim lessons.  I was going to walk him to the door but he quickly said, “Mom, you stay there.”  He wanted me to get back in the car.  He was too cool for me to walk him to the door.  I stood at the street to make sure he made it in the house.  When Dede opened the door, he waved bye and quickly ran in the house.  When on earth did my little boy get so big?

I was making fun of Tom’s new reading glasses earlier today.  We were laying in bed reading tonight and I asked him if I could borrow his glasses just to see if it made reading easier for me.  It’s official.  I need reading glasses.  I extend an apology to Tom and Dede, both of whom I have made fun of for needing reading glasses.  Getting old stinks!

Ella talked Daddy into giving her a bottle at night last week.  Although she was doing well with weaning, she begged and we gave in.  She only gets one bottle at night, and we will stop that bottle in the next week or two.

I started painting Aleck’s room.  His blue walls don’t match his Toy Story comforter.  I will post pictures when I’m finished.  I am on a mission to finish decorating the house.  We have lived here seven years, and I don’t feel like I have ever really put my touch on anything.  I am super excited about the changes!
