About Me

My photo
Welcome to my blog. I'm a Mississippi country girl transplanted to Grapevine, TX. I have been blessed with a great husband, and my kiddos, Aleck and Ella. When I'm not eating bon bons on the couch, I am my kid's room mom, PTA member, Sunday School teacher, taxi driver, amateur photographer and personal chef. When I'm not doing those things, I'm running a small jewelry business, 2nd Amendment Jewelry (www.2ndamendmentjewelry.com), that I started with my twin sister, Glenda. It's a crazy and busy life, but I wouldn't trade it for anything in this world. I am so thankful for all the blessings in my life!

Aleck at lunchtime

Aleck is beginning to insist on feeding himself. In the picture, he had just finished eating black beans. I consider it a successful meal when his hair isn't caked with food. He is tired of his baby food and wants to try anything and everything he sees Mommy or Daddy eating.

Aleck and Uncle Mike

Trip to Alabama

Aleck and I joined Tom on a business trip to Auburn, AL. Auburn is less than 2 hours from Oxford, where Tom's parents live, so we got to see Nana, Papaw, Aunt Joy, Aunt Cathy, Molly, Uncle Steve and Uncle Mike. Aleck discovered that Nana is an excellent cook. He would have nothing to do with baby food after he had a taste of her homemade potato soup.
Nana was in heaven when Aleck fell asleep because that is the only time he sits still long enough for anyone to hold him.
Since we didn't have a babysitter in Auburn, we took AJ to a really nice restaurant in Auburn to have dinner with Tom's business associate. When we walked into the restaurant, we realized that this was not the type of restaurant to which you take a 9 month old. Thankfully, AJ was on his best behavior and everybody loved him.
Aleck is now consistently taking 6 to 8 steps before plopping down. He climbed an entire flight of stairs twice. Of course, Tom was right behind him holding on.

Catching Bubbles with Joni

Joni stopped by for a visit. She brought bubbles and Aleck loved them! Thanks, Joni.

First Steps! (9 1/2 months)

For several days, AJ has been standing for 10-20 seconds without holding on to furniture. Today, AJ took his first step while Tom was with him. Tom was so excited he had to call me on my cell phone. I'm glad he took his first step with his Daddy. Since I am with AJ all day long, I get to see so many "firsts".
Later in the evening, AJ took 6 steps across the living room before plopping down. He was so excited!
I didn't get a picture of the first step, but I attached a photo of AJ standing at Tom's drum kit.

Too Good To Be True

I am sad to say that Rosie, my robotic vacuum cleaner, has been careless and has scuffed some of my furniture. I think we will have to let her go. Tom has grown to love her as much as I do, and will likely miss her as much as I will.

Saturday in the yard

Aleck loves being outside. Even when he was a newborn, walking outside would immediately calm him down if he was crying. I needed to work in the yard so I placed a blanket on the ground and enclosed an area for Aleck to play. He had a blast. Tom was inside practicing the drums, but we could here the music outside. Every now and then, AJ would stand up and start dancing to his Dad's music. It was absolutely adorable.

Favorite gift ever!!! (after my engagement ring, of course)

Okay, I'm sure most women would agree that a vacuum cleaner for Christmas might not be the most romantic gift from their spouse. Let me just say, those women have never used Rosie, my Roomba robotic vacuum. I love her!!! Rosie will clean carpet, hardwoods and tile. She even returns to the home base to charge when she has finished vacuuming. If Rosie can help me keep my floors clean, it makes keeping the rest of the house clean so much easier. I know this sounds like an advertisement, but I just LOVE Rosie.

Initially, Aleck was a little scared of the vacuum. As you can see by the picture, now he thinks it is the most fun toy to chase. Of course, I don't let him get too close. I do not want to explain to an ER doctor how my 9 month-old broke his finger when the robotic vacuum ran over it!

Drinking from cup

For the first time, Aleck drank from a cup independently. Of course, a good bit of water ended up on his bib, but he didn't seem to mind.
I am so tired. AJ woke up at 11:30 p.m., 1:30 a.m. and again at 5:30 a.m. It brings back memories of when he was a newborn. I think he is teething. It is funny how any disturbance in sleep is blamed on teething.

Playdate with Presley and Brooke

Aleck and I met my friend Dede and her 13 month-old twins, Brooke and Presley, at the park. That was short lived because the girls were running in different directions, so we moved the play date to my house. It was impossible to get a picture of the Aleck and the girls together. As you can see in the picture I posted, Dede was trying to get pictures also. Neither of us could snap a good picture of the kids together. I did get a cute picture of Presley, and Dede was able to get a picture Aleck with his arms around me.

Aleck has been bored with his same old toys, but he was much more interested when the girls were playing with them. I have a feeling that he may not be so good at sharing.

Trip to the park

Tom and I took advantage of the unseasonably warm weather today to take Aleck to the park to swing. The park is within walking distance from our house. When the weather is warm, I can get out with Aleck and get some exercise with the jogging stroller.

Aleck was playing in the living room this afternoon while I was in the kitchen. He was being quiet, which is very much unlike him, so I went in the living room to check on him and couldn't find him. When I started looking, I found him under the television, a small space that measures 10 by 16 inches. You would think he would have been scared to death of such a tight space, but he thought is was hilarious when I found him.
