About Me

My photo
Welcome to my blog. I'm a Mississippi country girl transplanted to Grapevine, TX. I have been blessed with a great husband, and my kiddos, Aleck and Ella. When I'm not eating bon bons on the couch, I am my kid's room mom, PTA member, Sunday School teacher, taxi driver, amateur photographer and personal chef. When I'm not doing those things, I'm running a small jewelry business, 2nd Amendment Jewelry (www.2ndamendmentjewelry.com), that I started with my twin sister, Glenda. It's a crazy and busy life, but I wouldn't trade it for anything in this world. I am so thankful for all the blessings in my life!

Aleck using sign language

Aleck is consistently using sign language during meals. The first picture is how he signs "eat" and the second is him signing "more". In the picture of him signing "more", he is looking at a bowl of blueberries, which along with rasberries, are absolutely his favorite food. You can tell by the look on his face that he really wants those blueberries.

Eating apples and plums

Aleck absolutely loves fruit. I think he is going to turn into a blueberry. AJ gets so excited when I give him a whole piece of fruit to eat. It will keep him entertained for an hour. Of course, I am sitting right beside him the whole time making sure he doesn't take a bigger bite than he can chew. To prevent choking, I take the plum away before it gets too small to fit the pit in his mouth and I just give him the core of the apple with a little fruit left.Mangoes are the best because he has to scrape the fruit off with his teeth and the pit is huge.

Yahoo!!!! Aleck is playing by himself

As most of you know, to say that Aleck has been a high maintenance toddler would be an understatement. When he is awake, he wants my undivided attention and whines when he doesn't get it. Finally, I think he is turning the corner. For the better part of a week, he has spent most of the day playing with his toys without any interest in what Mommy is doing. I hope this is a step in the right direction of AJ overcoming his separation anxiety. He starts Mother's Day Out in the Fall and until this past week, I have had my doubts that he would be able to tolerate being away from me for 5 hours. Of course, my living room is now littered with toys from one end to the other. I never thought I would be so happy to have so many toys scattered everywhere. HOORAY!!!!!

Eryn and AJ in the pool

Summers in Texas make me so thankful we have a pool. Many afternoons we spend in the pool or playing in the Elmo sprinkler. I will have to get a picture of AJ in the sprinkler and post it later.

I love these pictures of AJ and Eryn in the pool. Aleck is sitting in an inflatable swimming pool. It makes a great float. Eryn is such an awesome big sister. Aleck gets so excited when Eryn gets home from work that he runs to the door to see her.

Aleck loves to play with dolls

We had a playdate with Brooke and Presley last week. Aleck was fascinated with their dolls, but the girls were not too crazy about letting Aleck play with Lilly or Bella. Presley was so cute. She had just starting saying "no" and she said "no" when Aleck took her doll, which happened frequently. We were there for a couple of hours and out of all the toys, Aleck was most interested in the dolls. He would hug and kiss them. We tried to give Aleck a different doll, but he knew there was a difference between the doll we tried to get him to play with and Bella and Lilly. Brooke is such a sweetie and in one picture she is giving Aleck a hug. Of course, that is before he starting stealing her doll. You can see in the picture above, Brooke is not too happy with Aleck holding her baby.
When we got home, I asked Tom if Aleck can have a doll. If you know my husband, I don't have to tell you what his answer was.

Scottish Festival

Aleck and Gary, the band's drum sergeant

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. Aleck had a virus last week, and this week he has learned that he can climb into the kitchen chair and then onto the table. Needless to say, I have been pretty busy.

We went to the North Texas Scottish Festival last weekend. Tom's bagpipe band is one of the big events. The Scottish Festival is one of Tom's favorite weekends of the year. Despite the heat, we all had a great time. We bought Aleck his first kilt and sporran. A sporran is a leather pouch that hangs from the waist. I call them a man purse. Since the kilt doesn't have pockets, the sporran is where guys keep keys, cell phones, and money. I think Aleck will just keep a juice box in his sporran. I was worried about AJ getting sunburned and he kept taking his hat off and throwing it on the ground. Putting AJ's hat back on became a game, as you can see in the picture of him hanging on the tent rope.
Aleck had a blast playing and dancing to the live music. He kept trying to run up on stage while the bands where playing. In one picture you can see Aleck holding a drumstick walking towards a hand drum that was sitting beside the stage. AJ wanted to play that drum so bad and I had to keep him from hitting it. The drummer was sitting on stage and he kept laughing at AJ.

AJ loves attention and is already a little performer. Several strangers came up and asked if they could take a picture of AJ. He had so much fun dancing with Olivia, the five year-old daughter of a friend. In the picture of Olivia leaning over AJ she was trying to help him stand up and he leaned forward to try to kiss her. We made such a big deal when AJ started giving hugs and kisses so now he kisses everything! Today he was kissing his Elmo sprinkler. AJ also got his picture taken with a pirate.
