About Me

My photo
Welcome to my blog. I'm a Mississippi country girl transplanted to Grapevine, TX. I have been blessed with a great husband, and my kiddos, Aleck and Ella. When I'm not eating bon bons on the couch, I am my kid's room mom, PTA member, Sunday School teacher, taxi driver, amateur photographer and personal chef. When I'm not doing those things, I'm running a small jewelry business, 2nd Amendment Jewelry (www.2ndamendmentjewelry.com), that I started with my twin sister, Glenda. It's a crazy and busy life, but I wouldn't trade it for anything in this world. I am so thankful for all the blessings in my life!

Happy President’s Day

Today the kids were out of school so we had a play date with Brooke and Presley.

It brought back precious memories of all the play dates we had when the kids were little.  It just seems like yesterday when they were still in high chairs.  We took their shirts off when they ate so they didn’t stain their clothes.

Oh my goodness, I love these sweet children so much!

Daddy Daughter Dance

St. Vincent’s School joined with the church to have their first Daddy Daughter Dance.  I was so honored when they asked if I would take the pictures.  I have been taking pictures of my family for years, but this is the first time I have taken pictures for someone else.  I was so nervous and I made no less than 4 trips to the church in search of the perfect light.

I took pictures of 35 fathers with their little girls.  Overall, I was really pleased with how the pictures turned out.  Out of respect for their privacy, I’m not going to blog any pictures other than my own family.

After the dance was over, we took advantage of the rental backdrop for some family pictures.

I couldn’t have done it without Dede’s help.  We had so much fun!  We have talked for years about starting our own photography business some day.  Who knows, this may be the beginning of something good.

Valentine’s Party

We had our Valentine’s party at school today.  I’m a bit surprised at how much I love being room mom.  I love planning the parties!  Who knew, right?  I couldn’t have done it without so much help from the other mothers.

We started with a craft project.  We made a musical shaker using paper plates, foam stickers, red pom poms and bells.

Using My Digital Studio software from Stampin Up, I made this Valentine Bingo card.  The kids used little valentine smarties to cover each letter.  They didn’t really get the concept of bingo, and yelled “BINGO” every time they covered a letter, but it was still adorable.  After each game, they got to eat one piece of candy, which they loved.

Next, we used chop sticks to pick up the smarties and put them in small cupcake liners.

When our musical shakers dried, we danced the Hokey Pokey.  Every time we had to shake a body part, we also shook our shaker.  This part of the party made me realize I need to get myself back in the gym.  By the end of the song, I was T-I-R-E-D!

Since Ella gets out at noon, she joined us for lunch.  This was her second lunch of the day, but she sat down and ate like it was her first.  She was so well behaved and happy to be hanging with the older kids.  She makes her mommy so proud.

This little man did such a good job listening.  He was so proud that his mommy was helping with the party.

The view from my kitchen

I was cooking supper tonight and the house was quiet.  The kids were awake, so I became alarmed.  History tells me that if the kids are awake and I don’t hear them, there is reason to worry.

I found them laying on the couch looking at Ella’s book that her teachers at St. Timothy made for her last year.  I rushed for my camera, because moments like these don’t last very long.  Sure enough, the bliss of a peaceful house was short lived.

You know what, I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Alphabet Zoo

We spent a lovely Saturday morning at the zoo.  I am on a mission to print an alphabet book with pictures from the zoo.  I made a list of what we already have, and off we went in search of things to complete our list.

Valentine Party Sneak Peak

As room mom, I’m responsible for Aleck’s pre-k class parties.  They have a fall party, and a Valentine party.  I have been hitting Pinterest looking for ideas for the Valentine party.  I found a cute idea for Valentine bingo, so I opened Stampin Up’s My Digital Studio and went to work.  Since the class is still learning the alphabet, the bingo card had to be pretty simple.  This is what I have so far.  I might tweak it, but overall, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.
