About Me

My photo
Welcome to my blog. I'm a Mississippi country girl transplanted to Grapevine, TX. I have been blessed with a great husband, and my kiddos, Aleck and Ella. When I'm not eating bon bons on the couch, I am my kid's room mom, PTA member, Sunday School teacher, taxi driver, amateur photographer and personal chef. When I'm not doing those things, I'm running a small jewelry business, 2nd Amendment Jewelry (www.2ndamendmentjewelry.com), that I started with my twin sister, Glenda. It's a crazy and busy life, but I wouldn't trade it for anything in this world. I am so thankful for all the blessings in my life!

A Day in the Life

2:30 a..m. AJ's crying. hope it doesn't last long.

5:00 a.m. AJ's crying. hope he goes back to sleep.

5:30 a.m. AJ is crying, again. nursed until 5:50 a.m. and I crawled back in bed about the time Tom crawled out. We are both so sleep deprived.

7:00 a.m. AJ is crying. I try to nurse AJ in bed, but he would rather try to get the phone on the bedside table.

7:10 a.m. collapse on the couch after wrestling match to change diaper. I have been known to call Tom at work and give AJ the phone on speakerphone to entertain him.

It is raining. I love the rain and can't remember the last time it rained here. Hopefully, next months water bill won't be $190.

7:40 a.m. coffee is such my friend!

8:00 a.m. breakfast. toast, banana, yogurt.

8:20 a.m. AJ uses every bit of sign language he knows to tell me he is done with breakfast. It is so funny when he wants something and forgets the correct sign. He goes through every sign he knows until he gets it right.

8:30 a.m. 60 second shower.

8:55 a.m. into car to head to gymboree

9:15 - 10:00 a.m. Gymboree. Preston and Brooke are now in AJ's class and they had a blast. AJ climbs a ladder for the first time. He tried to climb over the baby gate yesterday. Thanks, Dede, for the awesome pictures. You rock!

10:15-11:45 a.m. To Costco. had to buy new cell phone because I dropped mine and busted the LCD screen so I was in there FOREVER. Luckily, I could give my old phone to AJ and he was happy the entire time. What is it about phones and kids anyway?

12:15 p.m. AJ fell asleep in car, so down for nap without lunch. I hope he doesn't wake up too soon because he is hungry.

12:25 p.m. laundry

12:45 p.m. play with my new phone, a blackberry curve. REJOICE!!! My phone numbers were saved to the sims card.

1:00 p.m. AJ is awake. Darn! he will go to bed with the chickens tonight!

1:30 p.m. lunch. raisins, cheddar cheese, turkey, lima beans, blueberries. Note to self...when AJ gives you the "all done" sign, don't put more lima beans on his tray unless you want to mop the kitchen. Tom is home early to do some work from home.

2:46 p.m. more laundry. smoothie for afternoon snack. wish I knew where AJ put the lid to the blender.

3:00 p.m. finish paperwork from PT visit I made yesterday and make some work-related phone calls.

4:00 p.m. off to see a patient and pick up groceries to make a homemade pizza. AJ took a short nap in the jogging stroller while Tom took him for a run. He finished his nap with the stroller parked in the middle of the kitchen.

6:15 p.m. supper time. Avocado, black beans, rotisserie chicken, blueberries, grapes

7:15 p.m. bath time and bedtime routine.

8:00 p.m. lights out for AJ.

8:30 p.m. finish patient notes

9:15 p.m. play with phone.

11:oo p.m. devotional.
11:30p.m. lights out.

Blog sabatical

Sorry it has been so long since my last post. We visited family in Alabama and Mississippi. We have been home a week, but AJ is not sleeping. He wasn't sleeping great before our trip, and traveling totally messes up his schedule. I can't remember the last time I slept longer than 3 or 4 hours in a row. I'm pretty sure it has been a month or more. Please pray that my little man sleeps through the night. I feel like I have an infant in the house instead of a 16 month old. I will post pictures from our trip when I am not so sleep deprived. For now, I will leave you with one of my favorite pictures.

Splash Island

Aleck and I met Dede, Brooke and Presley at Splash Island. The kids had a blast. As soon as I put Aleck down, he headed straight for the water. There were water spouts that would intermittently shoot water out of the ground. When the water turned off, the kids would put their mouth over the spout. When the water turned back on, the kids would get sprayed in the face. The look on their faces was so funny. You would think they would only do it once or twice, but they did it over and over again.

I got my exercise chasing Aleck. He kept running towards the exit gate. The more I chased him, the more fun the game became, the more he headed for the gate.
I have more pictures, and will post them at a later date. Have a great weekend.

Play date with Brooke and Presley

Brooke and Presley came over last Thursday to play with Aleck. Initially, AJ was not so excited to share his toys, but he got better and they played really well together. You can see in the early pictures that Aleck is trying to take legos away from Brooke and she is not happy. She finally got up and moved away from him. A couple of times, AJ would walk up and try to sit down on Brooke like she was a chair. I'm not sure what that was all about. Brooke and AJ made up after fighting over legos, and I snapped a picture of them giving each other a kiss. Brooke and AJ had so much fun putting a plastic drum on their head. It is so funny the silly little things that can entertain a toddler. Aleck thought the water in Presley's pink sippy cup tasted much better than the water in his green sippy cup. Thanks, Brooke and Presley, for such a fun filled day.

I love my sleep!

For the last week, Aleck has been transitioning to one nap a day. He was getting harder to put down in the morning, so I have been pushing his nap time back. He goes down in between 10 and 11, but today I put him down at 11:30.

He slept through the entire night for the first time in FOREVER. For the last two weeks he woke up around 3 or 4 am and I would let him cry himself back to sleep. It usually took less than 5 minutes. Aleck would wake up again around 5:00 so I would go in to nurse him and he would go back to sleep. Today, he slept until 6:30. I am not a morning person, so before kids I would have never thought that I would be grateful to get to sleep until 6:30 a.m. Aleck is teaching me to truly appreciate the little things in life.

Aleck is showing an inclination towards drumming. Gee...I wonder why. Could it be the fact that he has at least 12 different drums and he listens to Tom drumming all the time? I got a video of Aleck playing Tom's drum kit last night. I will post the video in the next few days.

July 4th

We had a relaxing afternoon by the pool with family. We thought about going to the July 4th celebration at Bedford Boys Ranch, but it was too hot to not be near water. Tom grilled burgers and we swam all afternoon. Aleck isn't crazy about the pool because we don't have a shallow part for him to stand up. He was content to play with his toys on the back porch while Tom and Eryn swam and I read a magazine. Aleck does like playing in his small inflatable pool, and he loves his Elmo sprinkler. AJ realized that if he stands on the side of his pool, he can make the water rush out. A couple of weeks ago AJ was going through this phase where he kissed everything. In one picture he is kissing the Elmo sprinker and in another he is kissing the garden frog.
