About Me

My photo
Welcome to my blog. I'm a Mississippi country girl transplanted to Grapevine, TX. I have been blessed with a great husband, and my kiddos, Aleck and Ella. When I'm not eating bon bons on the couch, I am my kid's room mom, PTA member, Sunday School teacher, taxi driver, amateur photographer and personal chef. When I'm not doing those things, I'm running a small jewelry business, 2nd Amendment Jewelry (www.2ndamendmentjewelry.com), that I started with my twin sister, Glenda. It's a crazy and busy life, but I wouldn't trade it for anything in this world. I am so thankful for all the blessings in my life!

Bingo Night at St. Vincent’s

Aleck and I attended Bingo Night, a fund raiser for St. Vincent’s Cathedral School.  After a day at Scarborough Fair, Ella was too tired to make it so Daddy stayed home with her because we knew we would be out past her bedtime.

Aleck wasn’t too interested in playing bingo, but he loved playing with his friends from school.  The highlight was the teachers dressed in costumes and took pictures with the kids.  Mrs. Dickey was Cruella de Vil, the villain from One Hundred and One Dalmatians.  When Aleck spotted Mickey Mouse, he screamed with excitement.  He looked at me at said, “Mommy, it’s Mickey Mouse.  It’s Mickey Mouse.”  Then he took off running.

Great memories with great friends.

Scarborough Renaissance Festival, Take Two

We made another trip to Scarborough Fair.  We met Gary, Michelle, Olivia and Jake.  Ella absolutely adores Gary, and I’m pretty sure the feeling is mutual.

The kids were mesmerized by the parade.  I’m not sure what the story was with the lady covered in mud and branches, but she didn’t miss the opportunity to get Tom a little muddy.

Indoor Safari Park

After a long week traveling to Canada for work, Tom stayed home today and we took the kids to Indoor Safari Park.  The kids loved riding the miniature train and the safari animals.

Tom and Aleck played a bit of miniature golf.  The trampoline and slide into the ball pit were a huge hit for Ella and Aleck.  I enjoyed the fact that the place is small enough and safe enough to allow me to sit on a bench and not have to chase the kids all over the place.  DSC_2959

Aleckisms

“Mommy, yummy bwoccoli!  Thanks for not making bedgtables for dinner.  I don’t wike bedgtables.”  I certainly wasn’t going to break the news to him.

“I wish I could meet God’s baby.”  I discovered he was talking about Jesus.

Before bedtime, Aleck was playing with his dinosaur and some stuffed animals.  During  bedtime prayers Aleck said, “Dear Lord, pwease help my dinosaur’s tummy feel better cause he ate Ella’s whittle bunny wabbit.”

Easter Baskets

Aleck saw the Chuggington trains at Target weeks ago, and has asked about them every time we go to Target so he was excited to find them in his basket.  Of course, Ella’s favorite thing was the balloons, but she did enjoy having a tea party later in the day with her singing tea kettle.DSC_2529

He is Risen

We attended a wonderful sermon given by Dean Reed at St. Vincent’s Cathedral, an Anglican Church that we have attended for the last six months.  My Christian life has been spent attending Baptist churches.  The Anglican Church is much different from what I have known in the past.  Initially, I was a bit uncomfortable with the format and formality of worship, but now it seems so natural and comforting to me.  Aleck attends school at St. Vincent’s, and we were initially drawn to the church by the wonderful people we met at school.  Tom and I are both attending the Basic Christianity class with Father Cantrell to have a better understanding of the Anglican Church.

Holy Week was a profound experience for me, unlike anything I have experienced.  In the past, I recognized what Jesus did for me, a sinner, but during Holy Week I found myself truly meditating on the amazing sacrifice he made for me.  Due to Ella being sick, I wasn’t able to make the Palm Sunday service, but I was able to attend the Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter services.

After the service today, we had an Easter egg hunt on the football field.  Dede, Gary, Brooke and Presley also attended the service and the egg hunt, and the kids had a blast.  Everybody was in a group waiting for the green light to start the egg hunt.  I looked at Aleck and noticed that he had hidden two eggs between his shoes, trying to get a head start on the hunt.  Much to Aleck’s dismay, I wasn’t the only person that noticed he was being sneaky.  A little boy spotted the eggs and went for them.  I really wish Aleck had left his shirt tucked in!

After the egg hunt, we all went to Chili’s for a yummy lunch.  We rounded out the day with a visit to Eryn and Mason to deliver Mason’s Easter basket.

Thank you, Lord, for these blessings, and for your Son, Jesus.  Alleluia, He Is Risen!

Ear Infection, Again!

Ella had a low grade fever a few days ago and hasn’t slept well the last two nights.  I took her to see Dr. Sakseena and she confirmed my suspicions, another ear infection.  This infection makes number 6 or 7, and she isn’t even two years old.  She had four or five infections before having tubes last May.  At least it has been 6 months since her last infection in November, but it breaks my heart to know that she is in pain.

Ear infection, ear infection go away.  Don’t come again another day!

Brooke’s Birthday Party

After naptime, Aleck and I went to Brooke’s birthday party.  Brooke and Aleck are in the same class at St. Vincent’s.  The kids had a blast in the bounce house.  The party had a princess theme and the birthday girl was dressed in her fancy princess dress.  Aleck wore his court jester costume, minus the hat, and told everyone, “I’m the prince.”  I have no idea how he knew that the hat didn’t belong on a prince, but he absolutely knew and refused to wear it.

My sweet boy, you are definitely Mommy’s little prince.

Scarborough Renaissance Festival

We had a great day at the Scarborough Renaissance Festival.  The weather was perfect, sunny and the perfect temperature.

Ella loved the slide and had so much fun people watching.  We ran into our friend, Michelle, and her family.  Aleck always plays with Michelle’s kids, Jake and Olivia, at the Scottish Festival and this is the second year that we ran into them at Scarborough Faire.

Aleck loves costumes and was immediately drawn to the court jester costume and begged for it until I gave in.  It ended up being a good investment because with the bright colors I could pick him out of the crowd.

The kids loved the Italian Ice and Aleck had the residual red lips to prove it.

Both Aleck and Ella were mesmerized at the Fool Hearty stage with comedy routine by the husband and wife court jester team.

Great memories in the beginning years of a family tradition.
