About Me

My photo
Welcome to my blog. I'm a Mississippi country girl transplanted to Grapevine, TX. I have been blessed with a great husband, and my kiddos, Aleck and Ella. When I'm not eating bon bons on the couch, I am my kid's room mom, PTA member, Sunday School teacher, taxi driver, amateur photographer and personal chef. When I'm not doing those things, I'm running a small jewelry business, 2nd Amendment Jewelry (www.2ndamendmentjewelry.com), that I started with my twin sister, Glenda. It's a crazy and busy life, but I wouldn't trade it for anything in this world. I am so thankful for all the blessings in my life!

Sticky Fingers

My cell phone went missing tonight and I was sure I left it on the computer desk.  Aleck has recently started “hiding” random items around the house and I was suspicious that he was the culprit.  Tom was reading Aleck a book before bed and I took two quarters into Aleck’s room and said, “Aleck, if you tell me where my phone is I will let you put this money in your bank.”  He hopped out of Tom’s lap and crawled to the back corner of his closet and produced my phone.  I would have never found it in a million years.

We had a nice conversation about asking for permission before taking other people’s stuff.  Tom pointed out the flaw in my reward system for producing “hidden” items.  I sure hope he doesn’t move his hiding spot!

Red is Rojo, Blue Azul, Yellow Amarillo

Aleck was bathing the other night and he started singing a song he learned at preschool when they were teaching him the names of colors in Spanish.  While he was singing, he was looking for toys in the bath for a visual aid to correspond with the color he was singing about.  Absolutely priceless memories!

Western Day

Today was Western Day at Aleck’s school.  The kids have been working on a dance for several weeks and it was absolutely adorable.  Tom was able to take off work early and Aleck was so excited when he spotted Mommy, Daddy and Ella in the bleachers.  Unfortunately, I didn’t really get a picture of him in focus during the dance, but I got plenty of video.  Aleck didn’t have boots and woke up this morning insisting that he needed brown boots like Mrs. Jordan, his teacher.  He did, however, have a Sheriff Woody dress up outfit with faux boots in the pants and that seemed like a good compromise to Aleck.  I do have to say, that he was the only kid in the entire gym wearing faux boots.  Aleck has a favorite classmate, R, who he talks about all the time.  I love the picture of them horsing around.  Of course, no post is complete without a picture of Aleck and Ella.

Strep throat

Poor Ella has been sick the entire week.  Three out of five days, we never got out of our pajamas, if that lets you know what kind of week it has been.  Poor little girl is still not feeling 100%, but is sick of the house so we had to shake things up a bit for entertainment.  This morning, we experimented with food coloring in the bath tub.  She gave it two thumbs, way up!DSC_6488DSC_6485

Deep questions from my little man

Today, I was rubbing Aleck’s back at nap time and he rolled over and asked me, “Mommy, how does God talk to me?”  I did my best to answer him in a way that would make sense to an almost four year-old.  It is amazing and wonderful that such a young heart is already thinking about God in such a personal way.

A Woman’s Heart

A Woman's Heart

I have started a Bible study with a couple of friends.  We met at Mardel’s to pick out a book together and we were all drawn to A Woman’s Heart: God’s Dwelling Place by Beth Moore.  I am just a few days into the book, but it is a wonderful study.  I am so excited about the wonderful things that God is doing in my life and in my family.

Aleckism

As we were walking to the Altar today to receive Communion, Aleck looked up at me and said, “Can I have some God water?”

During Communion, Aleck kneels between Tom and I and receives a blessing from the priest while Mommy and Daddy are receiving Communion.  After his blessing, Aleck usually looks up at me with such a precious smile on his face.  Thank you, Lord, for sending your Son to save my son.

Plano Train Show

Aleck and Daddy have been looking forward to the Plano Train Show for months.  Aleck sleeps, breaths and eats trains.  He wanted an electric Gordon train that we saw when we first arrived at the show.  When AJ wasn’t looking, Tom bought the train and was going to give it to Aleck when we left the show.  Aleck kept saying, “I want a Gordon train. I want a Gordon train.”  We finally gave him the train and he was good as gold the rest of the time.  He sat in the stroller with his new train in his lap, so very happy.

I was amazed at the details of some of the train layouts.  Some of my favorite layouts include the car lot and the carnival.  I am trying to take more pictures in the manual mode on my camera, so some pictures are a little blurry.

A highlight was the train ride around the courtyard.  Mommy was lucky enough to actually make it in some pictures this time.

You Can’t Always Get What You Want

Tom was getting Aleck ready for bed tonight and Aleck was not cooperating.  From the other room, I overheard a conversation that went something like this and it made me chuckle.

Aleck:  “But I don’t want to go to bed.  I want to play dress up.  I want to be a prince.”

Tom:  “We don’t always get what we want.  When I was little, I wanted to be a rock star when I grew up.”

Finger Painting Fun

On Wednesday, Ella has my undivided attention since Aleck is in school.  I try to get some laundry done, but a large chunk of the day is spent giving Ella special time with Mommy.  Today, we broke out the paint.  She wasn’t so crazy about her hands being dirty, but she loved the bath that followed.  DSC_6242

Note To Self Re: Potato Head Outings

The risk of losing Potato Head body parts outweighs the benefits of avoiding a whining child when considering taking said Potato Head in the car.

Skating Lessons

Aleck and I went skating for the first time today.  The skating rink had lessons and I was amazed at how well Aleck did for his first time on skates.  In the beginning he wasn’t so happy and wanted to hold onto me, but before long he was fine.  He did spend a lot of time learning how to get up after he fell, but he never hurt himself.  If helped that we met Brooke and Presley and he wanted to be out on the floor with them.  Thanks, Dede, for the invitation.  We will definitely make skating a regular outing.

Smile!

Dress up is a big deal at my house.  If you look around our home, this is a common site.

Lots of times we mix and match costumes.  Above, Aleck is a Spiderman, Buzz Lightyear, baseball player wearing princess shoes.

Does it make you smile as much as it makes me smile?

Tinker Toys and Wind Tunnels

We had an outing to the Science Museum today.  Aleck usually makes a bee line to the trains, but today he stopped in the room with the tinker toys.  He had so much fun building with the tinker toys.  Ella wanted to snuggle with Mommy, so we sat on the rug propped up against the bookcase and watched Aleck play.  We also had a great time at the wind tunnel.  We would cut the sides of paper cups and fold the sides to make wings and watch the cups shoot up the wind tunnel tube.  Every time a cup shot out the top of the tunnel, Aleck would get so excited.  We made a quick visit to the trains, followed by a yummy lunch in the cafeteria.  It’s such a wonderful life!
